Competency 1: Synthesize Knowledge
- Demonstrate ability to read and understand educational literature related to Educational Technology
In completing the case studies for the EDCI 67200 course, I "read and understood literature related to Educational Technology" in my analysis of the case studies and my participation in class discussion. The artifact that I have included to demonstrate competency is my concluding Reflection of Expertise. Each study included readings related to instructional design topics relevant to the case. I analyzed these readings and considered them in proposing solutions. In the final case study, I participated in the team that selected the related readings and then created and facilitated case discussion.
- Applies knowledge of human learning, diversity and effective pedagogy to the solution of problems.
Also I "applied [my] knowledge of human learning, diversity and effective pedagogy to solution of problems" in analyzing the case studies. I identified key stakeholder, key design challenges, case-specific constraints, prioritized challenges, and related readings. Then I proposed solutions. In my Reflection of Expertise document, I describe my evolution through my analysis of the different case studies as I gained increasing competency and confidence as an instructional designer. For example, in considering potential solutions to the Paul Lindley case, I debated the advantages and disadvantages of a sandbox game environment versus a sequential game progression to meet the needs of diverse learners within time and access constraints.
- Demonstrates ability to describe fundamental theories of human learning.
Through the EDCI 67200 Advance Design case studies, I demonstrated the ability to describe fundamental theories of human learning. This was necessary in analyzing constraints, prioritizing challenges and in proposing solutions. My additional piece of evidence is a collection of discussion posts from EDCI 513 in which I debate the aspects of varying learning theories through which I demonstrate my ability to describe them. As I look to continue to grow professionally, I will strengthen my explicit discussion of the fundamental theories of human learning in my professional practice.
